South of the Nottoway River on I-85 and Rt.712 (Rawlings Exit 39) in Brunswick County, is
the Virginia Battlerama. (You Can see many Southern Fields of Glory Here!)
Our Civil War historical attractions, in three dimensional diorama form portray the 1861 - 1865 period in Virginia. The displays are a result of 40 years of hand crafted, custom painted and specially designed miniature soldiers, cannons, limbers, caissons, earthworks, trenches, buildings, artistic backgrounds, and battlefield debris. There are thousands of handmade trees, shrubs, and scenery all lending realism to the Southern fields of glory! There are over 25,000 pieces that make up the ten famous Virginia battles presented at the Virginia Battlerama; each piece resulting from the magnificent artistic work of the craftsmen of the Realistic Miniatures Pewter Company. Realistic Miniatures is a family owned business that has been supplying some of the finest miniature pewter figurines and gifts to Virginia’s prestigious Historical sites for over 25 years. The long list of supporters have included sites at Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown and Fredricksburg to name just a few. When you experience our Virginia Civil War historical scenes, you will be a witness, on a grand scale to “The Battle of the Crater” at Petersburg, VA. And there are also scenes that depict the men of Southside Virginia going off to war; the Battle of Bull Run, Virginia; President Lincoln reviewing the Union troops at Berkley Plantation in Charles City County, VA, where the first observation balloon "Intrepid" was utilized and "'TAPS" was composed and played for the first time. There are also scenes of the Battle of Fredricksburg, VA; the Tredegar Ironworks (Confederate Cannon Factory) in Richmond, VA; and the “Battle of the U.S. Monitor and C.S. Merrimac” at Hampton Roads, VA. There is a camp scene of the Confederate troops the night before the famous "Battle of Five Forks, VA." Then finally, on the last two days of the Civil War, the two major engagements before the end of the Civil War are presented. The first, -- "The Battle of Saylors Creek" at Rice, VA took place with a great Union victory on the right flank and an even greater Southern victory on the left flank at the High Bridge area! Two days later, the Battle of Appomattox took place on the morning of April 9, 1865, at 10 am. Just three hours later, at 1 pm, General Robert E. Lee met with General Ulysses S. Grant at the McLean House at Appomattox Court House for the end of the five years of terrible war. To compliment these ten beautiful historical displays there is also the pictorial history of the Civil War as pictured and reported in the Harpers' Weekly Newspaper of the 1860's. There are also many battlefield and homesite relics found in the areas of various battles from all over the state of Virginia. We also provide for your convenience and pleasure a gift shop that contains many patriotic souvenirs, flags, gifts, collectibles, crafts. Civil War items, and Realistic Pewter Miniatures of every description, including Civil War soldiers and cannons.
